5. DOG the Bounty Hunter

I started watching DOG as kind of an accident, kind of a joke, but the joke was on me because now I am hooked. The DOG bit me only recently (about April of 2011) and the show is now a guilty pleasure. I've only had Directv for the last couple years and had no idea who or what Dog was. I had some catching up to do. Between my DVR and Netflix streaming, I've had a pretty good dose of daily DOG. My favorite episodes are when they actually use their fake-guns and/or mace and F-bombs are falling like raindrops. I could do without baby Lyssa and Young Blood, though. Bobby Brown is the tannest senior citizen I've ever seen who isn't retired and maybe he should because he can't seem to ever do his job very well. My Favorite DOG-ism was when he compared something to "Wanting a bicycle all year long and for Christmas you get a big box with a Christmas tree inside instead." I'm paraphrasing, but even if I wasn't it still wouldn't make sense.

His family bails people out of jail and then hunts them down when they jump bail.  Episodes take place in Colorado and Hawaii.  It's like COPs but way better.

Heather says: I love DOG and Beth. It's only my number 5 because I usually want to watch the other 4 shows more due to on-going plots etc.

You can watch DOG on DVD or re-runs & new episodes on A&E.

4. Cold Case

I watched the last half hour of Cold Case for about five consecutive weeks back in 2005 before the tv line-up changed. It was an usual watch for me because I've never been a fan of cop dramas or CSI or CSI knockoffs. I'm an old soul and I'd love to jump into a Delorean and be part of any other preceding generation, and that is why I love Cold Case! Call it a cop drama, I won't stop you. Each episode focuses on one cold case re-opened due to someone's guilty mom or a sweater or human remains or a cat's hairball-- okay I'm being silly. The cold cases go back as far as the 20s. You get to see how everything went down through beautiful flashbacks with all the matching details. They shoot the flashbacks using whatever type of film/equipment would have been used during the time and the music used was popular during the year of said flashback. I have a hard time picking a favorite episode. My least favorites episodes are when the cold cases are post 1999, because flashbacks have modern music and no one's face has aged. I'm just picky. The show also has sub plots that revolve around the different detectives and their lives, but it's sparse and I could do without it. The leading female actor, Kathryn Morris, is stunningly beautiful, but always looks very pale and ghostly in the drab city of brotherly love.

Heather says: I love this show to pieces and I wish they were still pumping out new episodes!

Cold Case isn't on DVD yet, but you can catch reruns on TNT.

3. Curb Your Enthusiasm

It's funny how people change and likes and dislikes can be fleeting. I'm getting married on Oct 29th to a guy I met and started dating back in 2004. We watched an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm at my sister's house, and we just absolutely hated it and couldn't pay attention to it. For the record, it was the episode with David Schwimmer and his watch. Anyway. Seven years later we own all of the seasons on DVD and I'm pretty bummed that season 8 just ended. I should also mention that I never even watched or liked Seinfeld until about 2006. I know, I know. I love Curb though because the situations are relate-able and I dig how everything is improv. Larry is probably just an all-around asshole but I give him the benefit of the doubt and feel sorry that he rarely catches a break.  At it's core, it's a show about a guy being rude both directly and indirectly and the hilarity that ensues.  Episodes will certainly spark debates with your friends!!  My fiance' is a bit of a Larry David at times (he pulled a Larry in a Dunkin Donuts drive thru once because they only let you order certain dozens of donuts, not mixed). Perhaps I didn't love Curb or Larry David yet because I barely knew my fiance at the time. Who knows. My only dislike is how predictable the storyline can be at times, but it's a very minor dislike.

Heather says: Curb is a show you will watch and quote! My favorite character is Leon Black!

Curb Your Enthusiasm is available on DVD and the awesome season finale starring Michael J. Fox will re-air Thursday, September 15, at 9:30pm on none other than HBO!

2. Weeds

I started watching Weeds in sequence via netflix streaming about a year ago. Wait, let me rephrase that. I started watching it in bed on my iPhone while my fiance was sleeping. When he woke up, I had gotten more than half way through season 1. I immediately turned on the tv and netflix streaming, and said, "You have to watch this!" I re-watched all the episodes and then we marathon-ed it until we were all caught up. We're both pretty straight-laced kids who have never even dreamed of smoking pot or living a life off the grid. Perhaps that's why this show appeals to us. A recently-widowed single mom, Nancy, starts selling weed in suburbia to pay the bills, but then is on the run and the scenery and situations are constantly changing. Her late husband's brother is a main character, Andy, who is obsessed with her.  She uses that to her advantage to manipulate him and get what she or her children ultimately need. I just wish Nancy and Andy would get together already and have sex. It might sound weird, and I might sound weird, but they belong together, and there's nothing taboo about it (in my opinion). My favorite character is/was Ceila Hodes who was a frienemy of Nancy's. She was hilarious and I hope they bring her back as I have missed her.

Heather says: TV shows that make me want to get high and break the law are probably a bad influence, but I can't stop watching WEEDS!

Weeds is on DVD, netflix, and new episodes run Monday nights on Showtime.

number 1 just might shock you....

1. The Real Housewives of New Jersey

I know. Oh my gosh. This is so unlike me, but you don't even know me, so here goes. I cannot stop watching this show. And even if I could, I wouldn't want to. I started watching this show when I was bed-ridden earlier this year. I watched almost all of season 2 during a Saturday marathon that was going on. I have since gone back to catch up on season 1 and now I DVR season 3 to keep abreast. Do I really need to tell you what this show is about? The appeal is easy. I'm poor, I've never spent more than 80 dollars on a pair of shoes, and I work like a dog to earn my poverty and could never be a housewife in this economy or any. I have never in my life watched a soap opera but lately I ask myself how is this any different? The drama and trash talk is intoxicating. It reminds me of being a mean girl back in Jesus school! I hate to say it, but I miss Danielle.  When she was on the show, I wished she would leave and now I take it back.  I miss her crazy crack-head ways.  The drama is so typical lately. With Danielle, it was like, a different level of drama. Like that girl you know who gets mad easily and wants to always call the cops or sue someone... but more annoying. The episodes lately are just tame and leave me hating Ashley more and more. When is she going to grow up and stop being such a punk ass? I hate whiny teenagers and she tops my list. I'm faithful to Theresa even if she is a little dumb sometimes. She's gorgeous (she was gorgeous before the boobs and tan though) and she's a good mom. Hands down though, Caroline Manzo is my favorite. I love her entire family. I want them to adopt me as their own even though I'm Polish and a grown adult. I swear, I'm a huge creeper. I can't say I didn't google the brownstone for my wedding reception.

Heather says: Kathy's husband is like a magnificent Jeff Goldblum mutant that I may or may not have a secret crush on. I look forward to having beautiful little girls that I can bribe with lipgloss and we will form an army that will overrun my soon-to-be husband and you will know us by the trail of our bobby pins!

My fiance (yes, I make him watch it) and I bang on tables and say, "Yo my fawkin fatha" in our best Guido voices.

If I have convinced you to watch it, which I doubt, you can do so Monday nights on Bravo. How did I ever live before Bravo?!
